SOCIAL CONCERNS MINISTRY

 

Mission Statement - Rooted in the Gospel, the mission of Catholic Social Services of the Diocese of Scranton and our Parish is to serve individuals and families in poverty and hardship, as we are called by Christ to respond compasionately to their needs.  As a Catholic agency, we advocate for individual dignity and self-sufficiency and actively give of ourselves to replace the despair with hope.

Major Projects:

  • Mission: ECUADOR

  • NICARAGUA  - “Walk of Water” 

  • Missions within our Community:

    • Shepherd of the Street:  Is a Christian ministry with the emphasis on medical issues that abruptly invade people’s lives.  We do not help with payments for medicine, supplies, and transportation, but we help with a person’s ability to cope with immediate and long-term inflictions.  They need donations of hygiene items, baby needs, and /or bedding. They have a list. 

    • Family Promises:  They provide shelter, meals, and intensive case management for families without homes by partnering with local churches provide much support, infrastructure, and volunteers. 

    • Expectation Women’s Center:  Parenting skill help with baby clothing and furniture. 

    • YWCA:  Helping single mothers and women with housing and counseling for live skill and jobs.  They need baby clothing, diapers/wipes, XL twin sheets, NEW car baby seats.  Microwave, toiletry items and cleaning supplies. 

    • Son Light House: Muncy  -  Community-supported resource that distributes food, clothing, and limited furniture to individuals and families in need.

    • Meals in the case of emergency - Frozen meals are available for families or individuals who needs are desperate. - direct family head to call the parish office 570.326.1544
