Pastor's Corner: October 13

Posted on October 14, 2024 in: General News

We’ve been telling you that the Forty Hours Devotion is coming up. Let me fill in some details.

This Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday our Deanery—not just one parish, but all of our parishes together—collaborate in celebrating these days when we focus on the great gift of the holy Eucharist.

We begin each of the three days with Mass, fed by God’s word and sacrament. We place the consecrated host in the monstrance so that we can see that outward sign that gives such grace during the quiet hours of the day. In the evening we regather to pray Vespers, the Church’s evening prayers of psalms and scripture—closing, of course, when the priest or deacon blesses us, not with his hands, but with the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

On Tuesday we’ll be at Resurrection in Muncy. Mass at 9:00am, Vespers at 7pm. Wednesday was originally scheduled for St. Ann’s, but their current building project will not be finished on time. They asked us, and St. Boniface Church will be the site for.Mass at 10 am with the St John Neumann community, 7 pm Vespers. We repeat with Immaculate Conception in Bastress on Thursday, with an 8 am Mass and 7 pm Vespers.

Please show up to any of our churches during these three days. If you can sign up online or in the back of the church for the St. Boniface day, thank you! (We do need to ensure that at least one person is in the building during the adoration time.) If your schedule lets you come to Mass or Vespers, you are welcome! And don’t rule out a quiet period of time during the day. The churches will be open and the Sacrament on the altar. Please share the invitation! These days are for anyone—not just the locations chosen for this year’s prayers.
