Local Ministries

Sojourner Truth Ministry (STM) -

One of our local projects is with Sojourner Truth Ministries (STM) in Williamsport, PA. Volunteers pick up donated food every Tuesday and deliver it to STM. Volunteers help prepare and serve lunches each Thursday from 10:30 am - 1:00 pm.  We also assist STM with other projects and services as needed.  There is a one-hour orientation required before starting to volunteer at STM.  For questions about volunteering for lunches or picking up donated food, please contact the volunteer coordinator, Karen Fry 570-916-1565 .  For all other questions about STM, please contact Gloria O'Connell 570-.220-1895.

Family Promise (FP) –

Another local project that we support is Family Promise (FP). FP is a non-profit organization that provides shelter, meals, and intensive case management for local families without homes by partnering with churches in the Williamsport area to provide much needed support, infrastructure, and volunteers. They are known for being a homeless ministry, but are able to serve families who are on the verge of becoming homeless. They help people who have eviction notices, homes that have burnt down, and people who are struggling financially to pay rent. They provide temporary housing through the generous support of local churches. Each church offers week-long housing for the families in a gym or unused section of a church or rectory, and provides food for the week and prepares a dinner meal for the 7 days.

FP Homeless Prevention program provides:

  • Life skills Classes
  • Parenting, co-dependency training
  • Resume preparation
  • Case Management
  • Financial match program and much more

We are looking for volunteers from St. Boniface/St. Lawrence to help with the following:

  • Prep the “house” (St. Lawrence Prep house) for the overnight guests.
  • Prepare a dinner meal for one of the evenings (Sunday – Saturday) that will be served at the Prep house.
  • Welcome guests to the home and serve the dinner meal.
  • Meet the guests and stay overnight (2 hosts needed each night from 6:30 pm – 6:30 am).  No meals served at this time. Hosts have their own separate (private) bedroom and bathroom. Couples, parent and older child or male/male, female/female hosts welcome.
  • Drive van to take guests to and from FP Day Center at the end of the day and each morning (valid, non-commercial driver’s license is acceptable).
  • Clean-up the “house” at the end of the 7-day stay.

If you are interested in learning more about FP, please contact Gloria O'Connell 570-.220-1895.

Other Ministries –

The Social Concerns Committee also works with other Ministries within our parish community:

We help with the Senior C.A.R.E. Ministry to assist where there is a need including gathering volunteers and providing hands on support. If you would like to help with this ministry, please contact the rectory or Diane & Keith Johnson at ddkjohn7@gmail.com.

We also provide support to various Food Pantries by collecting food at both St. Boniface and St. Lawrence. If you are interested in helping with the Food Pantry collections through our parishes, please contact Sue Lingg at srlingg@aol.com.
