If you’re at Mass in any of our churches this weekend, you know we’ve begun the annual novena to St. Ann. A relatively short prayer near the end of Mass. A hymn— with a familiar melody—addressed to Mary’s mother, Christ’s grandmother. I’m sure this small addition to our prayer raises a few questions. First, why St. Ann? Our parishes will have a special collection next weekend, July 25 & 26, to support those affected by the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela. All funds will be forwarded through the Diocese of Scranton to Catholic Relief Services, which is working with Caritas Venezuela and the local Church to provide emergency shelter, food, safe water, medical care, and other critical assistance.
