Pastor's Corner: April 2

Posted on April 02, 2023 in: General News

Welcome to Holy Week! Let me give you the map for these sacred days—so that we can journey together in prayer and worship.

Confession:

  • The light will continue to be on for you this Monday evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
  • Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be offered as a way to enter into the quiet prayer of this week.
  • Our deanery penance service will be held this Wednesday at 6 p.m. at St Boniface. Priests from the area will be available to hear your confessions.

Holy Thursday:

  • The Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be celebrated at 7 p.m. at St. Boniface. The Mass concludes with the procession of the Blessed Sacrament to the altar of repose in the lounge. You’re invited to spend time in prayer—like the disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane—as we enter our contemplation of the Lord’s Passion. Why not revive the old tradition of travelling from church to church to visit their altars of repose? It’s a reminder this night, when Christ gave us the Eucharist, that we are united in this sacrament not only to him, but to one another.
  • Night Prayer—a brief service of psalm and scripture—will be prayed in the Lounge at 11:30 p.m.

Good Friday:

  • The Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion will be celebrated at 1 p.m. at St. Boniface.
  • Stations of the Cross will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. at St Lawrence.
  • Night Prayer will be prayer at 8 p.m. at the statue of the Pieta in the narthex of St. Boniface. Join us as we quietly reflect on Christ’s burial and his Mother’s sorrows.

Holy Saturday:

  • Your baskets of Easter food will be blessed at 11:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence.  Traditionally these baskets contain a mix of Passover and non-Passover foods: salt and horseradish, eggs and wine from the seder table, leavened bread, sausage and ham—definitely not from the seder. This custom tells us we’re celebrating something both ancient and new! But, you’re certainly welcome to bring whatever foods you’ll share for your first Easter meal.
  • The Easter Egg Hunt will be held at 12 noon outside, weather permitting, at St. Lawrence.
  • The Easter Vigil will be celebrated at 8 p.m. at St. Boniface.
  • Easter Sunday will be a normal schedule with Masses at 8 and 10:30 a.m.!
