A Message from Andrew: September 3

Posted on September 04, 2023 in: General News

The celebration of the sacred Triduum is most likely far from our thoughts and minds as we enjoy the end of our summer months. Yet, this Sunday we are reminded of Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection. We hear in the gospel (Matthew 16:21-27): “Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly… be killed and on the third day be raised.” We may feel perplexed as to why we are hearing such a message at this point in our year. After all, aren’t Lent and Easter over five months away? We hear this profound message – in this “Ordinary-Time” of our year – because we are being invited to let Jesus guide the way in our lives, accepting that he will not lead us away from the challenges of ordinary life. Rather, by following in the footsteps of Jesus, we allow every experience – even moments of difficulty and pain – to lead us into a closer relationship with Jesus, who asks us to lay all of our burdens on his shoulders.
