The Sisters of Christian Charity, founded by Pauline von Mallinckrodt, in Paderborn, Germany, celebrate their 175th Anniversary as a Congregation this fall. This year also marks the 150th Anniversary of the sisters arriving at St. Nicholas Parish Wilkes-Barre on October 15, 1873. Soon after their arrival, Father Nagle asked other German Pastors if they wanted Sisters to teach in their parish school. The response was a whole-hearted yes, which allowed the congregation to grow quickly in the United States. The Sisters arrived in Williamsport in 1874 and over the years have ministered at St. Boniface Parish, St. Mary High School, St. Ann Parish, Bishop Neumann High School, Divine Providence Hospital, and St. Anthony Center. The Sisters continue to minister at UPMC Williamsport and Muncy. Bishop Bambera will celebrate the Eucharistic Liturgy in St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, on November 4, at 12 p.m.
We look forward to seeing you to help us celebrate this momentous event. The Sisters also invite you to join in their festivities throughout the year. See www.sccus.org for more information.
