Pastor's Corner: November 5

Posted on November 05, 2023 in: Pastor's Corner

No one needs to tell us we need priests. More priests. We know what Christians said from the beginning: No Church without Eucharist, no Eucharist without priests. But, as I learned when I went to our annual Priest’s Convocation a few weeks ago, sometimes we need to be told that we—the Church, after all—need to do some work if we’re to have the priests (and the religious sisters and brothers) we need. We need to pray for vocations (one of the few prayer intentions that Christ himself gave us when he taught us “to ask the harvest Master to send workers for the harvest.”). We need to teach our young people about what priests and religious do. We need to encourage young people to consider giving their lives in service to God’s people. These days the Diocese is inviting parishes to a new initiative around vocations—an initiative rooted in parish life, an initiative in which all the baptized participate. You’ll hear more before too long. Right now, just pray that the Holy Spirit will guide us all, and guide us to discover a new generation of leadership for Christ’s Church.
