Pastor's Corner: February 4

Posted on February 04, 2024 in: Ministries

Coming soon! With those two words, you’re saying to yourselves “He’s talking about Lent again. We know, we know... Lent’s coming up soon!” But, no, I’m not talking about Lent. I’m talking about the Children’s Liturgy of the Word. Let me update you on our progress.

A few months ago, our Parish Pastoral Council strongly affirmed its support for this ministry. It created an ad-hoc committee to do the necessary work to get Children’s Liturgy of the Word up and running again. That committee has been meeting. They’ve put together a mission statement: To provide a liturgical experience for young people to hear and respond to God’s word. A purpose statement: To provide Children’s Liturgy of the Word on a regular basis for children ages 5-9 at the 10:30 Mass on Sundays.

Now, that sounds pretty simple. But, we needed to recruit volunteers. We needed to provide appropriate training. Any volunteer has a right to know what the Church expects of a particular ministry. Every volunteer deserves the support and information needed to complete their tasks.

And, we needed to ask volunteers to comply with the Church’s safe environment rules. Clearances need to be on file. Training on safe environment needs to be completed. We want you to be confident about entrusting your children to our care—even for a few minutes on a Sunday morning. So, we’re working on Children’s Liturgy of the Word. It’s coming soon! So, stay tuned. We look forward to sharing God’s word with some of the youngest of our parishes.
