I know I’ve driving home this pilgrimage aspect of the Holy Year pretty often. But, it’s a treasured part of our Catholic faith. I’d hate to have the next several months to pass by and have us think: “I could have participated, I could have done something…”
Now we are fortunate to have a pilgrimage site in one of our churches. But, that doesn’t stop us from finding other sites as well. Think of it this way: As we travel, for work or for vacation, we’re passing pilgrimage sites all along the way. After the Broadway show, walk to St Pat’s. When we’re driving to DC or Virginia, take the rest stop at St Elizabeth Seton’s shrine. Going to Disneyworld? Mary, Queen of the Universe is among the basilica shrines this year.
Why not share that experience with others? Why not share it with your parish family?
Take a picture. A selfie, if you wish, in the church you visit. A picture of an amazing piece of art you encountered in a shrine. Something that surprised you. Something that moved you.
Send us the picture. It’s as easy as the parish email: stboniface@comcast.net. We’ll get it out there. On the website. On our Facebook page. Tell us as much or as little as you like about your pilgrimage visit. It’s enough to say “A parishioner visited Cathedral X in such and such a city.” Want to share more? Go ahead.
Let’s see our footprints travelling wherever we go. Don’t know where the pilgrimage sites are along your way? Use a search engine on your phone. Every cathedral, every basilica counts. Other shrines are listed on diocesan and national websites.
Wherever our travels take us this year, whatever part of the globe we visit, let’s find God’s grace and mercy. Let’s share the journey, let this journey make us one!
