Pastor's Corner: June 29

Posted on June 29, 2025 in: Pastor's Corner

I’d always thought that in summer things slow down. I’ve often been proven wrong. This summer looks like one of those times. Let me give you some idea of what’s coming up in the next few months:

Pipe organ repairs. We recently signed a contract to do repairs (and upgrades) on the Ruffatti instrument damaged last August by Tropical Storm Debbie. This will be a long process. A new console will be built. Pipes will be removed for refurbishing. And much of the labor requires specialized workers. We probably won’t hear the completed instrument until late in its 50th anniversary year—2026!

Fr. McCarroll. We congratulate our former seminarian and deacon on his ordination this weekend to the priesthood. He hopes to schedule a Mass of thanksgiving in this parish as soon as he can. When we’ve set a date for that, we’ll let you know!

St. Ann/St. Boniface Linkage. Preparations continue on, often behind the scenes. We’ll welcome our new assistant, Fr. Dias Antony, as he arrives this Tuesday. He and I will be taking all Masses at St. Ann’s Parish the weekend of July 19/20.

Fr Simchock is away that weekend and we can help out while introducing ourselves to the St Ann’s community. Please also note that beginning July 7, we’re moving to an enriched daily Mass schedule. (Please note this is a temporary schedule! In October, we’ll review the weekday schedule to weave the St Ann’s worship site into the picture.)

50th Anniversary, St Boniface Church. Saturday/Sunday, August 2/3, we celebrate the dedication of our primary worship site, St Boniface Church. That’s a solemnity in the parish, the highest of feast days. Prayers and scriptures at 4 pm and 11:00 am will reflect that celebration. Bishop Bambera will be the principle celebrant of the 4 pm Mass.

Patronal Feast, St Lawrence Church. And the very next weekend (August 9/10), we celebrate the patronal day of our secondary worship site, St Lawrence. The same liturgical rules follow for this feast day. And in the afternoon, we’ll have our parish picnic at the South Williamsport Park Complex.
