I know we’ve had a number of changes in our parishes’ lives these past few months. I know I’d like to settle down and just do the “normal” (whatever that might be!) for a while.
But, as Lent, Holy Week, and the Sacred Triduum approach, we’ll face some changes. Some of those are internal to us, as the linked parishes of St Ann and St Boniface. We’ll try to avoid overlapping or duplication as much as possible. (How many meatless meals do we all need to share together? How many adult formation events do we need to schedule in how many buildings? How many blessings of the first meal of Easter do two parishes and three worship sites really need?) We certainly hope to continue to offer a variety of opportunities to keep Lent in a holy and fruitful way.
But there’s another piece to our Lenten journey.
In early March, our neighbors at St. Joseph the Worker parish will embark on a large project: interior repainting of Annunciation Church. That pushes them to have regularly scheduled Masses in the Fleming Center most days and weekends. Moving through these months, we’ve offered our spaces to help them out. Fridays from March through the end of Lent, St. Joseph the Worker will pray Stations of the Cross at St. Lawrence Church at 7 pm. (St. Boniface will have Stations at 5:30 pm, and St. Ann will continue the Lenten potluck program, concluding with Stations at 7 pm in St. Ann Church. Living Stations on March 13 will be at St. Lawrence.) Monday evenings we’ll invite St. Joseph the Worker parishioners to our regular confessions— usually with Fr. Bechtel as one of the confessors. And, Easter Sunday, St. Joseph the Worker will use St. Boniface Church for their Masses—11 am will continue to be the St. Boniface Mass.
Confusing enough? Don’t worry—we’ll try to remind you of what’s going on when and where. All along the way, let’s put into action the collaboration we so often sing about during Lent: “The journey makes us one.”
