October 11 - In 1919, the Irish poet W.B. Yeats wrote the poem “The Second Coming”. His doom and gloom after WWI feels like a direct prophecy of now.
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
We have gone through these times before. Our individual imitation of Jesus Christ will help us exit and recover.
