There is so much behind a name. Despite the old jingle, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me”— names matter, words matter, names are powerful, words are powerful—the Word made flesh—all powerful! The Lord’s name is used more and more in our day, as an expletive—“Oh, my G**!; J**** C*****!” It should make our ears ring, and our soul cringe. How do we reclaim the reverence of the Lord’s name? We must use it reverently, lovingly— joyfully—and exclaim “O Lord, our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth!” Perhaps, you have seen fellow Christians even bow their heads at the name of Jesus? Let’s give it a try! It might even require us to lovingly remind others of the reverence in God’s name.
