Entries for 'Annual Appeal'
The Diocesan Annual Appeal is the primary fundraising effort in support of the vital work of the Diocese to serve all those who come to us for help. Each year, thousands of donors generously give to the Appeal so that we may provide significant assistance through the Diocesan ministries of Catholic Social Services and Parish Social Justice Grants, Seminarian Education and Care of Retired and Ill Clergy, Catholic Education in Schools and Parishes, Parish Life and Religious Formation and Catholic Media. Consider making your gift today! https://annualappeal.org/

Annual Appeal
I know, I know. There was a tech glitch last weekend and maybe you didn’t get to see the Diocesan Annual Appeal video at your Mass! But, all is not lost. You can still view that video. You can see faces from your parishes. You can hear voices of people you know. Most importantly, you can view the impact of the Appeal on the hungry in our own community. Go to the diocesan website: dioceseofscranton.org (If you’re not tech savvy, find a young person to help.) When the site opens, click on the Diocesan Annual Appeal picture (it’s front and center these days)....

Annual Appeal
Let me tell you why I give to the Diocesan Annual Appeal. Of course, I’m impressed by the many ministries supported by the Appeal: service to the poor, Catholic education for our young people, support to parishes in creating leadership and service teams. I’m aware that these supports do come into our local community—something you’ll see when you look at this year’s Appeal video. But, I also give because I’ve received. I didn’t have to pay to be trained to be a priest. I didn’t have to pay for that graduate school education. Th...

Annual Appeal
The Diocesan Annual Appeal is the Diocese of Scranton’s single most important fundraising initiative. Poverty, hunger, and homelessness remain serious challenges in our community. Funds raised also help with vocations and priestly life, Catholic communications, Catholic education, and parish and spiritual life. Look for more information about the appeal in the upcoming weeks in our weekly bulletin and on our website. We ask you to look deeply within your heart to contribute to the appeal in order to bring the gift of hope to our brothers and sisters in need.

We are closing our campaign for this crucial Diocesan fundraiser and are tying it up nicely before Christmas. While we will gladly accept any additional gifts, what we have collected so far has been outstanding. St. Boniface has reached 94% of its goal and St. Lawrence has reached 86% of its goal. THANK YOU. These numbers are substantial especially as we are missing our usual attendance numbers from regular Masses. Particular thanks goes out to our appeal team: Sue Dinsmore, Noah Bauer, Carol Sides, and Jeff Kemmler. We couldn't be more grateful. ...

Dear Friends in Christ,
This has been a year like no other. We have all been wounded and broken, confronted by our own limitations and the reminder that for all of our gifts and abilities, we are ultimately not in control of our lives.
As we experience light in our world, I trust that we are able to see and embrace the abiding presence of God – a God who has continually been at work in our lives through countless encounters with mercy and compassion that we have been blessed to extend to others and experience ourselves.
I am grateful to so many parishioners w...

My dear friends, this has certainly been a difficult year, hasn’t it? We’ve faced separation, hardship and loss. Yet there are still so many good things taking place across our Diocese each and every day. We are truly blessed.
As we respond to the challenges of the pandemic in our families, our parishes and our Diocese, let us continue to turn our hearts to our one true hope – Jesus Christ. His love is unending, unfading, unshakable.
We are bound together in the Eucharist….bound together in hope.
Thank you for all that you are doing to keep...

Annual Appeal
September 15, 2019
As you can tell from my tone as I speak of the Annual Appeal, I'm treating it differently than last year. The Bishop and the Diocese have been very responsive to the suggestions and comments of the priests of Lycoming County. This year is demonstrably hopeful. Besides that, in the past weeks, I've tapped diocesan assistance for:
advice on campus ministry at Lycoming College,
use of a Spanish speaking priest,
recommendations on safety & security,
opinions on liturgical art for the sanctuaries
Scranton is helping us in more ways than you know. They help me ...
