Communion Under Both Kinds

Posted on April 06, 2023 in: General News

Beginning April 6, Bishop Bambera has lifted the COVID restrictions on receiving the Lord’s Blood at Mass, and we will resume this practice at St. Boniface and St. Lawrence. Let us address some concerns that we may have following our recent experience of the COVID pandemic:

1. No one is required to receive from the chalice. We receive Christ—the crucified and risen Savior—whole and entire every time we receive either element of the sacrament.

2. Please be aware of your own health concerns. If you are sick, particularly with a communicable illness, you have no obligation to attend Mass. While Mass obligation on Sundays and holy days is a serious matter, charity requires that sick persons remain at home.

3. We will maintain appropriate precautions around the chalice. Communion ministers will continue to sanitize hands before distributing the Lord’s body and blood. Communion ministers who are not feeling well will step back from helping at Mass. Chalices at Mass will continue to be made of non-absorbent materials and wiped clean after each communicant finishes.
