Church Lending Libraries

Posted on July 29, 2022 in: General News

Church Lending Libraries
Both parishes have excellent books to digest. Please browse the books at both churches and borrow with no time limit.  The books are eminently readable and could be a great goal to read one or two before the end of the summer. Newly donated books are available including books by Sue Monk Kidd, Joyce Rupp, Anne Lamont, James Martin, S.J., and Pope Francis, to name a few. We also have bibles available for free. Contact us if you would like one for your home.

Adult Faith Life

Adult Faith Life
For many of us we learned about our faith first and foremost from our parents. They taught us around the dinner table and at bedtime with our nighttime prayers. Sunday Mass was mandatory and every other activity came after that! Unfortunately, too many people today think the Catholic schools or the PREP programs are enough, that sports and entertainment hold a priority over Church. These parents are negligent in their responsibility to practice and raise their children in the faith. For the rest of us, many stopped learning about our faith (spiritual life) after we made our...

Parish Commentary: July 17

Parish Commentary: July 17
Servant leadership: Looking backwards to measure progress “Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards.” This quote from Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard highlights the importance of perspective in understanding the concept of progress in our lives. At any point in time, there are only two options: to look forward, or to look backward. Our culture has trained us to measure progress by looking forward. We set goals and strive towards ideals. We pursue happiness. Yet there is powerful tendency to quickly adapt to our current circ...

Parish Picnic
Teens are an Important Part of Church Life
We invite all of our newly confirmed students, along with other teens going into grades 9-12, to participate more fully in the life of our parish. How can your student be involved? At Mass we could use ushers, greeters, lectors, altar servers, singers, and musicians. In the community teenagers would be helpful with the food pantry, Family Promise, and Sojourner Truth. Activities in the parish could always use teenagers as PREP youth aids, carnival workers, rummage sale helpers, special breakfast and dinner servers, and for soup sales.  Students will receive tra...

Parish Commentary: July 10

Parish Commentary: July 10
There is so much behind a name. Despite the old jingle, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me”— names matter, words matter, names are powerful, words are powerful—the Word made flesh—all powerful! The Lord’s name is used more and more in our day, as an expletive—“Oh, my G**!; J**** C*****!” It should make our ears ring, and our soul cringe. How do we reclaim the reverence of the Lord’s name? We must use it reverently, lovingly— joyfully—and exclaim “O Lord, our God, h...

Help the "Y" in July!
On the weekends of July 16-17 & July 23-24 we would like to help collect items for "Welcome Bags" for the women who come into the YWCA shelter. These women often come with nothing more than the clothes on their backs, as they are most often escaping a very dangerous situation. These bags will hopefully help them feel more at home in their strange new living quarters. The bags have basic hygiene items like soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste, combs and brushes. They also contain a towel and wash cloth, blanket, pillow, twin XL bed sheets, smal...
