Parish Commentary: June 26

Parish Commentary: June 26
In reviewing parish records we have learned that approximately 33% of “registered” members of St. Boniface and 31% “registered” members of St. Lawrence have not made any contribution to the support of either parish within the last year (financial hardships excluded). Not only does this put additional burden on ACTIVE members of the parish, but we can only wonder where these folks have gone. However, almost every day we receive requests from people claiming to be parishioners asking to be sponsors for baptism or to be married or buried in our parishes...

St. Boniface Cemetery Needs Your Support
We are very fortunate to have the beautiful and historic parish cemetery just blocks away from our church. The reality is that we need help keeping the cemetery maintained in a condition that we can all be proud of. Our costs continue to rise and our revenue has not kept pace. Each July your church donation envelopes contain a special collection for the cemetery, but it generally goes unnoticed. We are asking everyone to consider donating this year to help address this shortfall. If you contribute through On-Line Giving, please visit the website and scroll to t...

Parish Commentary: June 19

Parish Commentary: June 19
Today we celebrate two important events. One religious, one secular. The Church celebrates the Solemnity of (sometime referred to as) Corpus Christi. The basic and fundamental teaching in what we refer to as “The Real Presence.” The belief that Jesus Christ is truly present under the physical appearance of bread and wine. Our Protestant brothers and sister believe that communion is just a symbol. At the same time, our country has set aside today to honor our fathers, both those who rest in eternal rest, as well as those who are still with us. The statue of St...

Parish Commentary: June 12
As we transition from one pastor to another, it is important to note that our focus should always be our faith in Jesus Christ. Priests exist to serve the people of God, not maintain buildings. God, please bless all the priests who have served St. Boniface and St. Lawrence Parishes.

Containers Needed for VBS
The volunteers for this year's vacation bible school (VBS) are planning to do crafts that require a specific style of empty plastic food container. Any of the containers pictured here, or ones similar in size that are plastic with a wide mouth lid, would be greatly appreciated. Feast Day of St. Boniface June 5
June 5 is the feast day of St. Boniface, the “Apostle of the Germans” and patron saint of Germany! St. Boniface was an educator and reformer, and influenced the course of intellectual, political, and ecclesiastical history in Germany and France throughout the Middle Ages. He unified the missionary movement by bringing it under the control of Rome. In the words of St. Boniface: "The Church is like a great ship being pounded by the waves of life’s different stresses. Our duty is not to abandon ship, but to keep her on her course."

Pastor's Corner: May 29
Thanks for all the cards and gifts. You have been too kind. But most of all, I need to thank you for allowing me into your lives despite being a New Englander. Some of you are shouldering massive burdens that you shared with me. Gratefully, there are also marvelous examples of faith here too. With that strength, you have moved our parishes forward. We have achieved much by spreading responsibility for ministries and creating new ones. Sadly, priests come and go. But this is your Catholic community. You can chart its direction and its success. Peace!
