Entries for February 2024
Some of you may know that I am a pretty avid hiker. Although our nation provides many opportunities to experience different landscapes, there is nothing like the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains in Northeastern and Northcentral PA. I often find myself trying to find a new mountain, vista, or outlook to experience – but, mountains can be tricky things. Sometimes the hike is pleasant, the weather is wonderful, and the view from the top is inspiring. Other times the hike can be difficult, the weather can change drastically, and the “view” can be disrupted ...

I know we have lots of things going on during Lent. The bulletin and website can seem like a maze of options— prayer, confession, adoration, music, education, etc. But, today I want to highlight one opportunity that’s coming up on March 13.
You’ve known all along that St. Lawrence and St. Boniface Parishes have their place in the newly revived Road to Resurrection Series. Each of those nights involves prayer and song, scripture, and reflection. But, March 13 will take a slightly different turn.
That night we’ll welcome The Vigil Project, a grou...

We are so thankful for all those who have volunteered to continue our successful Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) at St. Boniface. We also want to thank Barb Rizzo and Sharon Thompson for starting this program in 2019 and doing a great job developing CLOW into a wonderful program for the children of our parish. Our next CLOW will be on February 25 at the 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Boniface.
The program is geared for ages 5 to 9 years.
After the Opening Prayer, the priest will call the children down and bless them to start CLOW.

During Ash Wednesday’s homily, I talked about the door in the gospel. The door of our private room where he can pray (and pretty much also fast and give alms) to the Father who sees in private.
What drew my attention to that door was a book I’ve been reading by Cardinal Roche, The Gardens of God. He talks about that door and relates it to all the doors in the Scriptures—the door to Eden guarded by the cherubim once Adam and Eve are thrown out, the doors mentioned by the prophets, the doors in Jesus’ parables, ending with the door in Revelation: &l...

Lent is a sacred season of prayer and devotion in the Christian calendar. For Roman Catholics, the forty days of Lent are a time of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving to prepare for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday.
This period of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving fosters spiritual growth by holistically deepening our relationship with God. Through prayer, Catholics draw closer to God. By fasting, Catholics detach from worldly comforts and redirect our focus toward the Lord. Refraining from certain foods or activit...

Confessions. Again, take a look at the many chances we have to experience God’s mercy—all through the weeks of Len...

As our Diocese continues to plan for the opportunities and challenges of the future with the Vision 2030 process, we recognize the value in the information that is contained in the October Mass Attendance Survey and the Annual Parish Report. While some parishes routinely share this information, just like our new Financial Transparency Initiative, it is a “best practice” of every parish to share their annual Attendance and Parish Life Statics.

Thank you to everyone who attended and worked at the Saint Lawrence Parish Pancake Breakfast and Bargain Sale last Sunday. We served so many people who braved the rain to enjoy breakfast. Luckily the snow held off until we were completely done. A big thanks to our youth who helped us serve others. Great work everyone! Watch for our next fundraiser on Saturday, March 16, for the Saint Patrick’s Day Corn Beef and Ham Dinner.
