Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God

Posted on December 27, 2024 in: General News

Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God
The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God is a liturgical celebration observed on January 1. It is a holy day of obligation for Catholics, meaning that Mass attendance is required. Solemnities are the highest rank of liturgical celebration, higher than feast days or memorials. By celebrating a solemnity dedicated to Mary’s motherhood, the Church highlights the si...

World Mission Sunday October 20
Dear Friends, On October 20, 2024, the Universal Church will celebrate World Mission Sunday. As we come together on this special day, I join Pope Francis in inviting each of you to embrace the Gospel’s call: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations” (Mt 28:19). This invitation to mission is at the heart of our faith, compelling us to share God’s love with all people. Pastor's Corner: October 6
Now it’s time to talk about names. Names of parishes, names of churches. In a consolidation of parishes—the process we’re doing with St. Lawrence and St. Boniface—a new name may be assigned. And the person who gives that name is the Bishop of the Diocese. He issues the decree creating the parish. In that decree, he names the parish. But, bishops don’t work in a vacuum. The pastor will make a request for a name, usually offering several options. I’ll be doing it later this month when I’m called to appear before Bishop Bambera and ...

October Month of the Rosary
Are you Interested in starting a Rosary Crusade at our parishes?  A Rosary Crusade is a way to increase devotion to Mary in the Catholic experience of discipleship, with the Rosary as a powerful tool for healing, renewing and strengthening families. Our Parishes can participate in a variety of ways: Pray the Rosa...

May is the Month of Mary

May is the Month of Mary
For centuries, the Catholic Church has set aside May to honor Mary, Mother of God—not just one day in May, but the entire month. In Ancient Rome, May was dedicated to Flora, the goddess of blooms, or blossoms. They celebrated ludi florals, or floral games, at the end of April and asked the intercession of Flora for all that blooms. It's a long-standing tradition to crown the statue of Mary during May, a custom known as May Crowning. “May Crowning” is a Catholic devotion recognizing Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth. As Ma...

Forgive me if I have ever pre-judged, or snapped or not paid attention.  Mea culpa!  I can only hope that despite my flaws I have served you well with devotion, creativity and most of all...faith in Jesus Christ.

This Lent, our PREP families are supporting mission efforts for children in the Diocese of Latacunga, Ecuador, where many indigenous people live in poverty. Did you know that… Adults who live there are mostly uneducated. Families raise livestock and other animals to earn money. Parents work where they manufacture vats or do seasonal work in the fields, picking flowers and vegetables. Adults who can find work earn around $50 a week to support a typical family of 7 or 8. Families are forced to leave many young children at home without supervision so they...

Crowded Masses
Suddenly our Masses are filling up again. That's lovely but let’s keep spreading out.  At St. Boniface, there is usually room behind the organ and near the confessionals. Feel free to use the Cry Room also.  Finally, some of you may want to use a weekday Mass as your Eucharist for the week. Meanwhile, stay tuned. We are trying to adopt temporary measures to alleviate any potential lack of distance.  Assume that Easter Sunday and Holy Week Masses will be arranged by Reservations. The Easter Vigil on Saturday normally has extra seating...
